Laser cutting generally produces a narrower kerf, tighter tolerances, and finer small details. Plasma is well suited when tolerances are broader and cutting capacity is the priority.

On thin and medium sheet, a modern fiber laser is often very fast. For some thicker materials, plasma can provide an attractive balance of investment and productivity. The boundary changes with power and material.

Total cost
Compare investment, electricity, gases, maintenance, cycle time, finishing, and utilization. A lower purchase price does not always produce the lowest cost per part.

Use a real basket of parts and measurable acceptance criteria. Cutting trials and an annual cost estimate provide a more reliable answer than a generic comparison table.
